The Spatial Community presents...
Giveaways!
Giveaway Details

Hey everyone!

With 2017 upon us, your admin-team has resolved to give back to the community and to make this community even more useful and fun. Throughout the year we will be hosting more AMAs ("Ask Me Anything"), giveaways, contests, and other special events to engage with the community. If you are on Twitter, please follow our new(ish) account at https://twitter.com/thespatialcomm as we will be using this for external promotion of our community and upcoming events.

With this we are proud to announce 3 (yes, 3!) giveaways in the coming weeks and months! The giveaways are listed below in order of date.

How to be eligible...

  • Want and be able to go to the event you win *
    • DevSummit in March
    • PyCon in May
    • FOSS4G in August
  • Not already registered to attend the events(c'mon, let someone who ISN'T going have a chance!)
  • Join the relevant channel for the giveaway in our Slack (join here) and stay in the channel until after the drawing as the channel list will be used as the entry pool.
  • Be an active member of The Spatial Community on the day of the drawing. (See additional details below)
  • Not be part of the admin team for The Spatial Community

How will the winners be chosen?

On the day of the giveaway (approximately 6 weeks before each event), the channel list and user list will be exported at approximately 9AM PST. These lists will be fed as input to a Python script (reviewable here) to randomly select our 3 winners. The winners will be announced via #announcements, our website and via Twitter. If the first place winner is unable to attend at time of announcement, we ask that you notify us immediately so we can pass the prize to the second place winner and so on and so forth.

What does an active member of The Spatial Community mean?

As the community continues to grow, some people join the community out of curiosity only to never return and over a period of time (2 weeks), they become 'inactive' (Slack's definition, not ours). At the time of the drawing for the giveaway, if your account is inactive, you will be excluded from the pool of eligible candidates.
